This is not a yoghurt advertisement, but Gustav Larsson’s cool shot of tenor Tero Halonen singing Eumete the shepherd in last year’s production of Monteverdi’s second opera Ulysse’s Homecoming. Tero was also a shepherd in L’Orfeo 2015, so for his third Monteverdi role, he changes direction and will entertain us in a comic role, that of the first Soldier, who struggles to stay awake as Nero spends the night with his mistress. Tero dives right into the core of a character and presents it with intense stage presence and acting skill. Whether it be a heroic prince or Hitler he’ll nail it.
