Dido & Aeneas

Henry Purcell (1659–1695):  Dido & Aeneas  (1689?)

Sat  18.11.2017, 7pm
Sun 19.11.2017, 4pm

By popular demand, our performance of Purcell’s beloved opera will be repeated in November, again starring the winner of the Kangasniemi singing competition, Iida Antola. Don’t miss it this time around!

“There were only two performances of the opera, so anyone wishing to see it will either have to convince the group to put it on again or arrange for a private show.”  – Hufvudstadsbladet, 5.4.2017

“Iida Antola in the role of Dido was spectacular. Fantastic voice and stunning presence. You don’t often hear the aria “When I am laid” sung so perfectly! You could really feel the pain of the dying Dido.” – oopperadonna.blogspot.fi , 4.4.2017

This performance is in association with the professional early music specialist ensemble, the English Vocal Consort of Helsinki. The ensemble’s six members perform all the roles, and they are supported by the baroque ensemble, Dido’s Train. Dido & Aeneas is one of the most loved baroque operas and Purcell’s miniature masterpiece, but this show promises to be something completely new!

“Few opera performances have felt so relaxed” – Wilhelm Kvist, HBL, 5.4.2017
