There will be no fewer than seven (!) magnificent mezzo-sopranos singing in our production. One of them is Emma Suszko who recently completed her studies at the Haute école de musique Genève (HEM). Her beautiful lyrical voice and depth of interpretation completely embody the sorrow and barely-controlled rage of the empress Octavia. In her famous and moving aria “Addio Roma”, the banished Octavia bids a quiet farewell to Rome, while in the throne room, Poppea’s coronation ceremony is about to begin. In this picture Emma is dressed for Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in 2017 where she has just completed her sixth season. The lakeside backstage is a nice place to meditate between the scenes and contemplate personality psychology. Meditation and psychology are Emma’s favourite hobbies.
